Interventions

At Ysgol T.Gwynn Jones we all believe that every child should reach his or her full potential. To help us achieve this we have a Language and Maths intervention programme. Mrs Jones runs all of the language interventions and Mrs Horsley runs the Numeracy interventions.
Mrs Jones and Mrs Horsley have their own classroom called the Ocean Room where they take small groups of learners, allowing them to have a calm and encouraging environment.
The Interventions team also support those children who need a little extra help with their speech and language skills.
As well as language and numeracy group interventions. Mrs Jones and Mrs Horsley have access to a range of programs and interventions to support children. These are outlined below:

Headsprout
Is a computer based programme, that develops children's reading skills. Each child works through episodes at their own pace and completes a map with stickers to celebrate their progress

Nessy
Uses both Computer activities and small group activities. Each child is screened following parental permission, to identify which is the best way to support the child's literacy skills. This programme has computer activities and videos showing a different way to remember tricky literacy rules eg. the magic 'e' at the end of words

Narrative
Is a programme we initially used alongside speech and language therapy, however the programme has developed and so has how we use it. We now use it within the school in all subject areas, to help children develop their expressive language and understanding. It is used in the ocean room to help children with speech and language skills and reinforce the use of the narrative to help them develop and express their knowledge
